Baltic Blue Biotechnology Alliance

Marine biotechnology has significant potential for innovation and growth in the Baltic Sea Region (BSR), but needs more strategic approaches for a full value chain sector development.

The ALLIANCE project brings together blue biotechnology actors across the BSR to address key challenges and opportunities in blue biotechnology and to develop innovative marine bio-based products and services together with companies. By systematically pooling the national capabilities within BSR, the ALLIANCE project aims to foster sustainable blue growth by facilitating a selected number of cases for transnational development of commercial blue biotechnology products in the whole BSR.

A number of cases with good prospects to deliver successful blue biotechnology products was integrated in the consortium from the beginning and during the project many more cases will be selected through applications and pitching events. These cases will be invited to join the Alliance mentorship programme and offered support with the following services:

• Analytical techniques
• Research infrastructure / Equipment
• Bioresources
• Business development
• Communication
• Legal Advice

The Baltic Blue Biotechnology Alliance is a 3-year project (2016-2019) led by Geomar Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, in Germany. It is part-funded by the Interreg BSR programme under the ERDF. For more information about the ALLIANCE visit the website www.balticbluebioalliance.eu.
